About

How I started

I started collecting autographs as a way of holding onto something physical from musicians whose work has meant a lot to me. Part of it is practical – there’s just less to hold on to now. Music is distributed digitally and played back digitally now, so there’s less reason for buying a physical disc or album. We don’t even get ticket stubs anymore, which still feels wrong.

I realize that I probably sound like a crotchety old man at this point.

Another draw to the hobby was realizing that it gave me a reason to tell them how much their work has meant to me. And getting those opportunities has honestly become the best part of it.

What this is now

But it’s become clear that this collection has a center of gravity: the New York scene from the late 70s into the 80s, and the western Massachusetts scene of the 80s and early 90s that I grew up around, alongside artists from outside those scenes and times.

This is still my personal collection, and nothing here is for sale.

Not every item has been personally signed – unfortunately there are many artists in my collection where that just isn’t possible.

Feel free to dig in my collection – or here’s a quick listing to quickly see what I’ve gotten so far.
